DEVOTION FOR TODAY

The heart of any matter is the heart itself. Nothing matters more than the heart. No wonder when there is a discomfort or disease, the first place to check is the heart. That is the life of the body. Almost every disease or disaster or disagreement can be traced to the heart.
Prov. 4:23 instructs us what to do with our hearts. It says to keep your heart. The word keep or guard is a military word. It means to mount a sentry at your heart. Don't let your heart be easily accessible. There are too many things that would want to enter your heart if you don't mount a guard on it. From when you wake up to when you go to sleep, too many things would want to enter your heart that would cause you damage. Since it is your heart, you have the responsibility to protect it. People have a right to express, expose and explain themselves the way they do that may hurt or harm or help you. You have a right also to sift whatever they throw at you. If it is not good for your heart and health, let your bodyguards bounce them off. One thing the human heart does consistently is to give off carbon dioxide and receive oxygen. It is the oxygenated blood it now circulates to the organs. Train your heart to sift and give off every carbon dioxide thoughts people try to pass out to you. You know that carbon dioxide will cause your heart to stop and that means you are dead. But oxygen energizes you so you can live. Our text today tells us our attitude to protect our hearts should be with all diligence. You have to be determined and dogged about protecting your heart. It is your heart that determines your health. If you don't protect it, no one really cares until your heart stops and you are dead. Unless you want them to decide your death, then you can allow them undue access into your heart. Choose what goes in and comes out of your heart from today because that is the only thing you have that can decide what happens to you.
