DEVOTION FOR TODAY

What is God to you? No one can define God to capture the fullness of His Person, Purpose and Power. That's why the Anglo Saxon word for God is simply the Good Being. That is so limiting in defining God. However, God reveals Himself to each of us in ways that helps us discover a side or part of God that becomes our own revelation of God. It is like having a pet name for your friend or lover. That name becomes the exclusive rights you have with that person. Once they hear that name anywhere in the world, they connect it to you.
Psalm 119:114 shows us two sides of God that we can know in our relationship with Him. 1. God is my refuge. He is my hiding place. There is too much trouble, tribulation and temptation in this world. However, I can always hide in Him. He protects me from the storms, winds and waves that would have destroyed me. 2. God is my shield. If you can see the spears, arrows, stones and bullets shot at you daily, you probably would build a bunker and live there forever. However, God shields us from all of them. Yes, you can put God up as your shield to ward off those arrows from your loved ones and close friends. These arrows destroy fast and furious if you are not shielded. The fact that you are reading this devotional is proof you have survived. Keep your eyes on God and never stop trusting in His word. Eventually, you win because He is your refuge and shield.
