DEVOTION FOR TODAY

When Moses called the people of Israel to hear in Deut. 6:4, that was a reminder. These people knew that it was God who delivered them from Egypt with a strong hand, yet they still needed a reminder. They saw the ten signs that broke Pharaoh's control, yet they needed a reminder.
They saw the Red Sea part before their eyes and walked on dry ground, yet they needed a reminder. They saw the Egyptians drowned in the Red Sea. They saw water from rock. They ate bread from heaven, yet they needed a reminder of the truth that our God is God alone. Let me ask you, how many signs have you seen to show God loves you? Can you just list ten to twenty things God has done for you over the past twenty months? They may not be as spectacular as the Red Sea splitting before you. They may just be simple as paying rent or school fees or healing of aches and pains. As you write them, see how much God loves you. Remind yourself that if not that God loves you and that He is with you, you would have been homeless or out begging or even dead. How better can you remind yourself of God's love and presence than to love Him. Deut. 6:5 tells us to love Him with all our hearts, souls and strength. How do you love Him with your heart? By putting His word in your heart. Deut. 6:6. How do you love Him with your soul? By teaching your children His word and help them to walk in God's word. Deut. 6:7. How do you love Him with your strength? By speaking His word in your house, when you are walking, when you lie down, when you rise up. Deut. 6:7-9. It takes strength to speak the word when you don't feel like or when those around you don't want to hear it. However, that is your love for God demonstrated.
