DEVOTION FOR TODAY

When Michelangelo took a piece of stone and carved a Pieta showing the Virgin Mary grieving over the body of Jesus in the fifteenth century. His work was regarded as one of the world's great masterpiece of sculpture. It was described as a revelation of all the potentialities and force of the art of sculpture. Contemporary opinion summarized it as a miracle. If a formless block of stone can be reduced to a perfect piece of art, how much more a human being?
Eph. 2:10 shows us what God the Master Sculptor is doing with your life daily. Everyday with His hammer and chisel, God is reducing a piece of formless stone to a master piece of art. Always remember that He is your Sculptor. You are His piece of art. You can't make yourself look beautiful and glorious. He does the work both inside and around you. God told me years ago, son, if you don't like what you see of you, don't try to fix it. I will fix you. How many times we try to fix our spouses, children, friends and neighbors? Even when we know that we can't fix ourselves, we try to fix others. That is a venture in futility. Only God who designed you can fix you. How does He fix us? In Christ. When we surrender daily to the word of Christ we read, hear, study and confess. He changes us daily, not monthly. Everyday as we look at His face and hear His voice. He shapes us to look like the masterpiece of art He has for you in His mind. Why is He working on us daily? So we can walk in what He does in us. He wants to showcase us to the world. Before He shows you off, He shapes you carefully. It took Michelangelo three years to produce that masterpiece. God takes His time to shape us until its showtime. Till today, after over five hundred years, his work is still a masterpiece. What God is doing in you will still be a masterpiece for all eternity. Glory to God!
