What is your definition of love? As our faces are different so are the definitions of love. What love is to you may not be the same to another. The most concise definition of love is in 1 John 4:16. It defines God as love.
To love is to be like God because He is the embodiment of love. You can't claim to know God and not love. Just as you can't claim to love and not know God. The proof that you know God and He dwells in you will be seen in your demonstration of love. Our different definitions of love reflect the divers ways love is demonstrated. While for some, love is care, concern and compliment. For others, it is acts of kindness. However, the greatest demonstration of love is to lay down your life for your friend. John 15:13. Two clear facts here: 1. You can't love everyone to lay down your life for them. That is too much to offer everyone. Only God can do that. You are not God and don't try to be God because you will not satisfy everyone even if you try. 2. Its only your friends that are worthy of your laying down of your life. This is where you need to define your friends in order to qualify. Someone is worthy of your love. Don't deprive them of it.
